At RPG Innovations Construction Services, we are proud to be leading the construction of a brand-new 88-room Fairfield by Marriott hotel in Merritt, British Columbia. This is one of our biggest commercial projects, and it’s a perfect example of how we bring experience, planning, and problem-solving together to build something great.
With over 30 years of experience in construction, we are handling every part of this project — from planning and permits to site work and full construction. We’re managing the team, staying on schedule, keeping things safe, and making sure everything is done right the first time.
⚠️ A Problem Under the Ground
Soon after we started, we ran into a big challenge. When we tested the ground, we found clay soil underneath the hotel site. Clay holds water and can move or shift, especially when it rains or dries. That can lead to serious problems like cracks in the building or an unstable foundation.
This type of soil is common in the Interior of BC, but it always needs special care. We couldn’t use the original plan for the foundation, so we had to act fast and come up with a better solution.
🛠️ How We Fixed It
Our team worked closely with our engineers to fix the problem the right way. Here’s what we did:
- Dug out the weak clay soil
- Brought in stronger, engineered soil
- Added drainage systems to move water away from the building
These steps helped us create a safe, strong base for the hotel that will last for many years.
